Masterbatch – otherwise known as pre-mix. It is an additive to the plastic in a concentrated solid form as polymer granules. It is a concentrated mixture of pigments and/or additives, encapsulated during the thermal process in a carrier resin, which is then cooled and cut into granules.
What are premixes used for?
The use of masterbatch is a very beneficial solution. Their use allows, first of all:
- Coloring – special coloring premixes are used to impart color to raw polymers.
- Filling (so-called fillers) – they are used to reduce production costs and to impart and correct mechanical and thermal properties.
- Imparting properties – some premixes enable base materials to have special properties, such as mechanical, electrical or chemical.
